The new Facebook Timeline feature is now out for everybody. Today we’re going to take a look at maximizing the design to highlight your companies goals.
Custom Facebook App/Tab Images
To make your Facebook page more like a landing page on a website we can use the app/tab photos to highlight featured services or products. To do this you’ll need to have an app set up which we’ll look at in a bit. To change the photo for your apps you can follow these steps:
- Go to your facebook page
- Click on “Manage” in the Admin Panel and select “Edit Page”
- Click on “Apps”
- Choose the app you want to edit and click on “Edit Settings”
- Click on “Change” from the Custom Tab Image line
- Here you can upload a new image to the dimensions below
Our custom landing tabs are gone and have given way to the Facebook apps/tabs. These apps can work in much the same way as the landing tabs (except that you can have them be the default landing tab). We can still direct users to an app/tab for a campaign and now we have more room to use as well.
To use the Facebook apps, you will need to go the developers.facebook.com side and set up an app that pulls a page from your website. If you’re using WordPress, you have a great option to handle a lot of this for you. The wordpress plugin that can help you is Facebook Tab Manager. This plugin will help you walk through the necessary steps to get your app up and running.
Facebook Timeline Image Dimensions
The first thing we need to know is what the dimensions are of the cover photo and the app/tab areas. Luckily, there is a very handy Facebook Timeline image dimension guide from Jon Loomer. This guide shows all the necessary dimensions for all of the possible images that can be added to Facebook Timeline.
